The church record notes that Nikolaus Meier "emigrated on 1/11/1855 as a widower with three children to America".  The family did not travel with others from Scherzheim.

On the voyage to America, the Meier family traveled on the ship the "Henry Reed" captained by George A. Dearborn from Antwerp to New York. They left port in Antwerp on January 14, 1855 and arrived in New York on February 10, 1855.
